Student Success Plan

We plan for each young person who comes into the school to enter an environment that is safe and secure.  When it comes to academics, we plan for and work towards success for each student.  Various practices are used in each classroom to diagnose performance and address students' needs.  Personal help, remedial programs, and intervention strategies often move students toward the success that is envisioned.  We also work toward helping each student grow and develop socially and emotionally.  A genuine feeling of belonging is a prerequisite to learning and healthy development.  Every student needs to be able to say, "This is my classroom; this is my school; this is my place.  This is where I belong."   When students can say this out of the honesty of their own beliefs, then and only then, can optimum learning take place.

McAlester Public Schools produce successful students who are supported by actively involved parents, and a community that values and embraces their role in the education of it's youth.   Businesses, churches, youth organizations, foundations, and civic groups all have contributions and responsibilities, and therefore, membership in our MPS educational team.

Who is served by special education?  The answer is just about every student in MPS.  In fact, all children have special needs and differing abilities.  Therefore, a one-size-fits -all approach to learning is inappropriate.  Today, all education is special.  From using a wide variety of teaching techniques and strategies to providing specialized programs, learning at all levels is being revitalized.  We recognize that each child learns differently, so the way we serve students' individual needs must also vary.  The mission, however, always remains the same - to serve them all.

For information related to your individual student needs, ask your child's principal or counselor about the following programs:
