Advocating for Children with Disabilities to Build a Better Future Since 2000

About the Oklahoma Parents Center

The OPC specializes in special education support for people with disabilities from birth to age 26 and their families.  We have been providing services to Oklahoma parents and family members of children with disabilities, young adults with disabilities, and the professionals who serve them since 2000!

What We Do

Navigating through the special education process can be overwhelming and complex.  You don’t have to go it alone!  The OPC staff is here to equip you with the tools you need to understand the system, work with service providers and schools, and advocate for your student or yourself.

Our goal is to give you the knowledge, skills, support, and tools you need to be the best advocate you can be!  In order to accomplish this, the OPC offers services in three (3) key areas:

  1. Individualized Assistance
  2. Trainings
  3. Information and Resources

How Can We Help

The OPC helps families work with early intervention, education, and transition systems and services. We strive to ensure that families receive training and information on their rights, responsibilities, and protections under IDEA so they can actively participate in planning and decision making that affects their children.

We also help youth and young adults with disabilities get high-quality services that increase their capacity to be effective self-advocates.

We can provide one-on-one assistance to youth as well as provide you with a number of resources on Bullying prevention, Options for after high school, Self-advocacy skills, and Transition to adulthood.

We have created a page where you can access online trainings/videos that you can watch at your convenience!

Some of these will be provided by the OPC, but others may be from our trusted partner organizations.

This page offers a wide variety of resources!  You can access all of the OPC Newsletters, printable Fact Sheets and Brochures, a Dictionary, and so much more!

Whether your child is in SoonerStart or in a public school district, one of the best ways to share your opinions with us is to take the appropriate parent or family survey each year.
