Student Transfers Home

Thank you for visiting our website to learn more about our student transfer policy. We appreciate your interest in McAlester Public Schools.

McAlester Public Schools makes decisions about student transfers in accordance with district policy and state law. You can download our comprehensive district policy below; however, we are providing the following information for your convenience:

  • Transfers for siblings must be considered separately. If the grade a student requests is over capacity, he/she will be offered the opportunity to be placed on a waiting list.
  • Transfer students must abide by eligibility requirements established by the Oklahoma Secondary Schools Activities Association (OSSAA) for OSSAA-sanctioned activities.
  • Decisions about transfers for the 2023-2024 school year will be made on an ongoing basis throughout the school year. We will contact parents directly about the approval status of their child’s transfer.
  • Mid-year transfer requests will be considered within 5 days of the district receiving the application. Confirmation on approvals may take up to a week.
  • Unsure if you need a transfer? Please call the MPS Central Office at (918)423-4771 and talk with Stacey.

If you have any questions about the transfer process or need access to technology to complete the forms, you can visit our Central Office located at 200 East Adams in McAlester, Oklahoma.

Transfer Application Process

  1. Complete the Oklahoma State Department of Education Transfer Form.
  2. Submit the Oklahoma State Department of Education Transfer Form.
  3. Students with IEPs will need to complete the Special Education Form. Once the form is completed, it must be mailed to transfers@mcalester.k12.ok.us. (Skip this step if the student is NOT on an IEP. )

The Transfer Application Process will NOT be finished until completion of Step 2.

Transfer Acceptance or Denial

  • New transfers are accepted on a first-come, first-served basis. Students who attended the district on a transfer during the 2022-23 school year will be automatically accepted pending approval from the district. The law also gives preference to children of active-duty military personnel and the children of district personnel.
  • To accept a transfer, enrollment in the grade the parent requests must be under the district-established capacity. The district’s capacity and vacancy numbers for each grade and school can be found below.
  • Transfers may be denied based on capacity, attendance and discipline issues.
