McAlester Public Schools Winter Weather Policy

As we move into the winter months, we must be prepared for the chance of inclement weather.

For those times when weather brings a question to the safety of our students, MPS will follow the procedure below.

A decision for CLOSING SCHOOLS will be made by 6:00 am ON THE MORNING OF THE DAY IN QUESTION

This decision will be made on a day-to-day basis. It will be shared with:

-- Local Radio Stations and the McAlester News-Capital

-- Surrounding Television Stations

-- The MPS Website & MPS Social Media

The District will send a text message to all MPS Faculty, Staff and Parents for which we have contact information.

McALESTER PUBLIC SCHOOLS WILL NOT RELEASE EARLY.

If bad weather moves into our area during a school day, we will observe a LIBERAL LEAVE POLICY.

During a LIBERAL LEAVE POLICY, parents are welcome to come pick up their children.

Students who drive can be released to leave school and drive ONLY upon a PERSONAL PHONE CALL from their PARENT to an ADMINISTRATOR (OR DESIGNEE) at the school which the student attends.
