Will Rogers Elementary administrators and staff are dedicated to the whole child and their educational experience. We want all of our students to reach their academic potential as well as fostering a love for learning in other areas of interest. Here are just a few of the things that we offer at Will Rogers….
Will Rogers Learning Oasis/Greenhouse and Aquaponics- We want to use the garden as a learning laboratory to reach all students with the type of hands-on learning they need to thrive. We are using the aquaponics system to grow plants within a living ecosystem. Turning fish waste into plant nutrients and letting students learn that the food they eat does not always come from just a grocery store, but a farm. Our goal is to introduce kids to all types of traditional gardening foods and even some not so traditional foods.
STEAM - If you do not know what this is, you are definitely missing out on an amazing learning experience. Through the lenses of Science, Technology, Engineering, the Arts, and Mathematics, the students develop and practice through a hands-on approach. From LEGO building challenges, Minecraft EDU, and many other science based experiments, our STEAM class is assisting the students with their 21st Century Skills of collaboration, creativity, critical thinking, and communication. All students are able to attend STEAM at least once per week!
Recycling Program - Will Rogers students through a partnership with the Choctaw Nation Going Green Program are learning about the importance of the three R’s: Reduce, Reuse, and Recycle. Choctaw Nation Going Green has placed recycling bins at our school. Our teachers, staff, parents, and students are actively participating and learning about how to protect our environment.
WRTV - Will Rogers TV (WRTV) is a student written and produced show airing weekly on Monday mornings. Students are involved in every aspect of the show including writing, filming, and editing. The team meets Tuesday through Friday mornings to prepare the next week’s episode. Weekly episodes are viewed by the entire student body on Monday mornings at 8:00 a.m. and can also be found on our Will Rogers Facebook page.
100 Mile Club - 100 Mile Club believes that every individual has the ability to achieve true personal success and a new level of physical fitness by Accepting the Challenge of running (or walking) 100 Miles at school during a single school year. These feelings of true personal success and fitness are ones that will carry participants to new levels of achievements in all areas: academics, athletics, and life. It is a personal journey toward a very personal goal. It is not a race with anyone but yourself. It is about empowering kids to achieve a healthy lifestyle, preventing childhood inactivity and obesity, one child at a time.
Gardening Club - After school garden club provides a great way for students to learn about gardening and gain hands-on experience growing their own food, and tasting the fruits (and vegetables!) of their labor. We want to cultivate students curiosity, exploration, and encourage them to take ownership over his/her own health. Planting seeds to bond with nature, create life skills, and for relaxation. Will Rogers Gardening Club helps to make our school healthier and greener.
HERD Time - All bus riding students are at school until 4:00 p.m. everyday. The students are provided a snack and homework help by certified teachers in smaller groups. We believe HERD Time is beneficial for students and their families to help alleviate potential homework stress and provide more family time in the evenings.
STEAM Club - STEAM Club is offered to 4th Grade students during the 2nd semester of school. Meeting one afternoon per week, we delve more deeply into the elements of STEAM. This club is “student centered” meaning the students lead the way! What they are interested in, is what we learn about. There are no lesson plans or set agenda to follow-where our curiosity takes us is where we go!
If you are interested in any of these projects or activities, please let us know! We would love to have you volunteer or visit our school anytime! Our door is always open!
