MHS Student Council earns National Honor - 4th Year in a Row

We just received notification that MHS Student Council has been recognized by the National Association of Student Councils as a National Gold Council of Excellence 2019. This is the 4th time that our council has received this award.

The National Association of Student Councils, along with the National Honor Society, falls under the umbrella of the National Association of Secondary Principals. The National Association of Student Councils recognizes local councils who go beyond the norm with two award levels, National Council of Excellence and National Gold Council of Excellence. Our council has awarded the more prestigious of the two for the last four years consecutively. To qualify to be considered each council must meet about 60 criteria and complete a minimum of 4 major projects which must be judged to fall into one of the following categories:

  • Global Citizenship
  • Civic Engagement
  • Positive Social Change
  • Empathetic Actions and Wellness
  • Awareness or Perspective Changing

Each local council must prove that they impact their local school culture. They must also serve their local community, region, and state.

Our students have put in many hours planning, serving, and representing McAlester. They deserve any recognition that has come to them!

Please congratulate them if you have a chance. Also, thank you Mr. Timothy Collier for your amazing leadership of this group!
