McAlester Public Schools Winter Weather Procedure

During the winter months, we must be prepared for the chance of inclement weather.

For those times when weather brings a question to the safety of our students, MPS will follow this procedure: A decision for closing schools will be made by 6:00 am ON THE MORNING OF THE DAY IN QUESTION

This decision will be made on a day-to-day basis.

The decision will be shared with:
-Local Radio Stations and the McAlester News-Capital
-Surrounding Television Stations
-The MPS website & MPS Social Media

The District will send a ParentSquare message to all MPS Parents, Faculty, and Staff for which we have current contact information.

McAlester Public Schools WILL NOT release early.

If inclement weather moves into our area during a school day, we will observe a liberal leave policy.

During a liberal leave policy, parents are welcome to come and pick up their children.

MHS students who drive can be released to leave school and drive ONLY upon a personal phone call from their parent to a high school administrator (or designee).
